As newcomers to sheep farming, we contacted Dr. Bodlak's veterinary practice to schedule an initial check-up for our six sheep. When we called, Dr. Bodlak's wife assured us that he (Dr. Bodlak) was a sheep expert with years of experience. The veterinarian's instructions at the first appointment, following a bloody hoof cut, were to increase the amount of concentrated feed (2 x 0.5 kg/head/day) to prevent liver damage, general organ damage, lambing problems, etc. The result of changing the diet as advised by the veterinarian and the sudden addition of corn, oats, and wheat was rumen acidosis, and two of our six sheep died a miserable death. Instead of euthanizing our ram at the second appointment, after the diagnosis was made and one sheep had already died, an expensive treatment with antibiotics, medication, and IV fluids was recommended. This only doubled his suffering before his eventual death. The result, besides the €450 in damages to the two animals (purchase costs), is a €300 bill for treatment. The bill stated: "As a gesture of goodwill, the first appointment was waived." A joke, right? So, free instructions from the "expert" on how best to kill my animals, only to then recommend an expensive treatment. Dr. Bodlak, with all due respect, you get a 5 from us—absolutely unacceptable. You are grossly negligent in spreading misinformation and false statements, and then you even blamed me, claiming I poisoned my animals myself. Your aggressive behavior on the phone and in person is completely inappropriate towards clients. You may be a good veterinarian, I don't doubt that, but you should keep your hands off sheep in the future if you don't know what you're doing. I would never visit your practice again, nor would I ever recommend you.
Top veterinarian!
Everyone is very friendly and helpful.
