Tierärztliche Praxis für Kleintiere Dr. Bernd Schulze Zumloh

Four months ago, we had to have our beloved dog euthanized at this veterinary practice. He was suddenly in severe pain and bleeding – we arrived at 7:45 a.m. as an emergency case. We were the first ones there. Despite the obvious emergency, we had to wait about 30–45 minutes. It was particularly difficult for us to understand why patients who arrived after us were called in before us, even though we repeatedly pointed out that our dog was suffering acutely and bleeding. Only after asking several times were we allowed into the examination room. There, we were greeted by Dr. Schroff – she came into the room with a pre-prepared syringe in her hand, without greeting us, and said something to the effect of "euthanasia." No examination had yet taken place. For us, this moment, in our emotionally charged state, was deeply hurtful and almost incomprehensible. The way we were treated in this situation deeply affected us and remains incomprehensible to us to this day. Especially in moments like these, pet owners expect not only medical expertise but above all empathy, time, and sensitive communication. Fortunately, Dr. Schulze-Zumloh recognized the situation, thoroughly examined our dog (including an ultrasound), and then calmly and professionally explained that a ruptured tumor was the cause. Only after this examination did we, with heavy hearts, decide on euthanasia to prevent further suffering. We are very grateful for Dr. Schulze-Zumloh's professional and dignified care. Based on our experience with Dr. Schroff, we have decided not to visit her practice again in the future.

We took our budgie to Dr. Schroff. She was incredibly empathetic, we always felt well-advised, and we were involved in every decision. It was also no problem to come in immediately when our budgie suddenly had trouble breathing. There was hardly any waiting time (max 10 minutes), and she really took her time with every examination. Unfortunately, we had to have him euthanized on Friday. This, too, was handled with such empathy. We were given at least 10 minutes alone with him, and everything was explained in great detail. Even though it was very upsetting for my 4-year-old son, the whole team was incredibly understanding and empathetic! Thank you so much! It's so difficult to find an avian veterinarian who is also nearby. We're really lucky here!
