We were in real distress – our dachshund suffered a severe herniated disc on Friday afternoon. Trying to reach a veterinary clinic by phone was impossible. So I drove from Wernigerode to Hanover, but there was no surgeon there. From there, I went to Berlin. An emergency clinic in Zehlendorf was open, but they didn't have a surgeon either. Treatment lasted until 4:30 a.m. Then I drove to the animal university clinic in Leipzig – they couldn't be reached by phone either. And they didn't have a neurologist either... My daughters had contacted several vets via LinkedIn! Among them was Dr. Burger, who got back to me and offered to operate on our Monti! Dr. Burger is incredibly competent, reliable, and has actually gotten our dachshund back on his four paws – the paralysis is improving – he can even walk again three days after the surgery. I can highly recommend Dr. Burger's state-of-the-art practice.
During a dental procedure performed by our veterinarian in Michendorf, after we reported shortness of breath and loss of stamina, laryngeal paralysis was diagnosed. That was in September 2024. Since our Golden Retriever, Balou, is now almost 13 years old, we initially hesitated to consider surgery, clinging to the misguided hope: "It won't be that bad." But that was a misconception. With the onset of warmer weather in the spring of 2025, his condition worsened significantly. Walks were limited to a few hundred meters, requiring frequent breaks, and the dog nearly collapsed with labored breathing. Then I remembered the business card for the Burger Small Animal Clinic, which our veterinarian had given us. All our hope now rested on this clinic. Perhaps there was another way, maybe with medication? At the first appointment, Dr. Dr. Burger patiently and clearly explained that only a so-called "tie-back" surgery could help. In this procedure, one side of the laryngeal cartilage is permanently pulled to the side and fixed in place. This opens up the trachea, which otherwise partially closes during inhalation, acting like a valve (you can find numerous references to this online). We agreed to the surgery, and it was probably the best decision we could have made. 👍 After 10 days, our dog is like a different dog. B. easily manages longer walks, which we gradually increased, and can now walk for almost an hour without any effort. Even feeding with an anti-gulping bowl works without him choking. B. has been given a second chance, as he might not have survived the following summer. We thank Dr. Burger for his expert care and empathetic approach. He is probably one of the best veterinarians I have encountered in my 35 years as a dog owner. Balou also says: Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! 🐾🙏
We can wholeheartedly recommend Dr. Burger. We finally found an excellent veterinarian who identified and treated the cause of our cat Mia's breathing difficulties, which were due to a rare laryngeal paralysis (in cats). We were always able to get appointments quickly. The surgery and subsequent recovery went very well. The practice is also very well equipped with technology, such as a CT scanner. We are very grateful to Dr. Burger for his competent and compassionate treatment. We feel our cat is in the best hands here! Best regards, the Stieler family and Mia.
I can 100% recommend Dr. Burger and his practice. Our dog, Levy, had to have an anal sac removed due to chronic inflammation. Since our vet didn't feel confident performing this surgery, we were very unsure about the procedure and the potential risks. Dr. Burger calmly explained everything to us and was very empathetic during the preliminary examination. The surgery went smoothly. We were a little nervous at first, as the dog really had to be at the surgery all day (drop-off at 8 a.m., pick-up in the evening), but afterward, we were very happy with this procedure, as he was monitored the entire time. Many thanks to Dr. Burger and the entire team for their excellent work!
I can wholeheartedly recommend the Dreilinden Small Animal Surgery Clinic and the entire team around Dr. Burger! Our Bernese Mountain Dog, only 5 years old at the time, underwent arthroscopy for bilateral elbow dysplasia. We also had the CT scans for diagnosis done there. Both during the CT scan and the surgery, our dog received excellent care. The examination was extremely thorough, we were fully informed about every step and detail of the diagnosis and surgery, and Dr. Burger and his staff took a great deal of time and radiated calm, routine, and expertise at all times. Initially, I was a little skeptical about simply dropping our dog off and picking him up 10-12 hours later, but this concern vanished because Dr. Burger is a highly competent surgeon and a pleasant person, and his staff are very compassionate, professional, and empathetic assistants. I have the utmost respect for Dr. Burger's achievements, especially considering his daily workload, which easily amounts to 13-14 hours or more. Despite this, there's never a hint of fatigue, impatience, or annoyance. You can tell that the entire team always wants the best for the animals and works accordingly. Should our Bernese Mountain Dog need another examination or surgical treatment, I would immediately go back to Dreilinden. Highly recommended!!
