Rex Tierarztpraxis Berlin-Neukölln

We went to Rex Neukölln after noticing blood on our cat one morning. We had recently moved to the area, so this was our first visit to a local vet clinic. At first, we thought it might have been related to an accident, but Tierärztin Giese quickly realized the issue was something else and started treating him immediately, together with Christin and Joana. They were incredibly caring and took excellent care of our cat. Even though he was very stressed and reacted aggressively because of his condition, they stayed calm, gentle, and made sure he was as comfortable as possible. They were also very thorough, explained everything clearly, and kept us informed throughout the process. We were genuinely impressed by their professionalism, compassion, and the extra effort they put in. During our last check-up, Ms. Giese and Marlene helped us, and once again we saw the same high level of care, attention to detail, and kindness. Even though we were very worried about our cat, we feel lucky to have found such a wonderful team.

We were very happy with Rex at the beginning - the clinic is nice, it’s easy to get an appointment, and our dog was always relaxed coming into the clinic. Rex’s bills are more than the average vet, but we thought it was being matched with experience and convenience. Unfortunately, that turned out to be wrong. My puppy had an undescended testicle that, during the whole series of vaccinations (he had all puppy vaccinations at Rex), was not spotted. I could even let it slide as he is a miniature dachshund so the testicles are less prominent , but: 1) in all vaccinations, you also pay a fee for general health check 2) We were worried enough to go for a physical consultation specifically to check if the puppy was growing well and that was still not spotted… that is a bit more unacceptable. But it doesn’t stop there. Once we went to a specialised vet about his behaviour and the testicle issue was diagnosed, we came back to Rex as recommended to have an ultrasound and chat about their serious oversight. At Rex, we were told that our dog would have to 1) have an ultrasound every 3 months until the puppy is 2/2.5 years old 2) the dog would likely need to be anesthetized for each ultrasound - in order to make sure that he doesn’t develop testicular cancer. We also got the impression that the vet was afraid of dogs which isn’t ideal for a vet. As the trust in Rex was not there anymore and having a puppy anesthetized every three months sounded like a lot, we booked an appointment at another vet for a second opinion. We booked an ultrasound easily with them, there was no question about anaesthesia or follow-up ultrasounds every 3 months as he was far too young for testicular cancer and everything looked good (and even an endocrinologist confirmed this). In fact, many we talked to were shocked by the ethical and health implications of knocking out a small dog every 3 months unnecessarily, not to mention the massive costs. Fast forward, we stopped going to Rex with our dog, he’s already had his operation to extract the undescended testicle + full castration at another vet who understands Dackels and has empathy for the owners as well.

Avoid at all costs — find another vet clinic where staff speak English if that’s your concern. I've been coming to this clinic for four years, and today was my last visit. The prices have always been noticeably higher here, sometimes two or three times more than other clinics. At times, I was pushed services which were rather redundant. Yet, I overlooked this because of the convenience: easy appointments, no waiting, and English-speaking doctors. For a while, that felt worth paying more. Today changed that. I brought my dog in for a booster vaccination. Before the appointment, I informed the vet that my dog is very anxious and won't allow a physical examination, and that the calming medication the vet herself prescribed last time had no effect. The vet acknowledged this and agreed to proceed without an examination. The entire appointment itself took about thirty seconds. When I received the bill (90 euros), nearly half of it was charged as an examination fee. When I questioned this, since no examination had taken place, I was told that "the doctor examined her by looking at her." I find this completely unacceptable. The vet had explicitly agreed that no examination could happen. Billing for a clinical examination that did not occur is not something I can let go without a warning to others. I highly encourage everyone to avoid this chain.

We visited this clinic while the Friedenau branch was temporarily unavailable. Dr. Michél Hegyes was thorough, took the time to investigate our dog's ear sensitivity, and quickly identified an ongoing ear infection that we had been unable to figure out for weeks. We were very satisfied with the care received and especially appreciated that everything was explained in English, as our German is limited. Highly recommended!

My cat had a dental surgery here after a referral from our main Rex clinic in Prenzlauer Berg. It was a complicated case of gingivitis with some teeth removal as well, and everything went great. I recommend dr. Lisa Renner, even though it took us some waiting time to get a surgery appointment. And yes, Rex is pricey! But totally worth it if you have an insurance covering it and/or you don’t want to spend hours in a tiny waiting room with your pet like it often happens in smaller local vet clinics
