We are writing this review in the hope that it will spare animals much suffering later on. We, too, mistakenly assumed for far too long that this was a good veterinarian. We had been taking our 10-year-old Border Collie to this practice since he was a puppy. He managed to control problems like epilepsy reasonably well with medication. Unfortunately, over the last two years, he has been experiencing increasing problems with vomiting and diarrhea. We visited the practice countless times because of this. Each time, he performed what appeared to be a thorough physical examination. Whenever we received a diagnosis, it was always an "infection," or once, gastritis. Each time, we were given tablets, mostly without stomach protection. He considered an ultrasound unnecessary, as he didn't suspect a tumor. Blood was always drawn in the evening and never on an empty stomach. In retrospect, we question whether any meaningful analysis was ever performed. Because even then, we were always told that the values were age-appropriate. We last visited this practice on September 19, 2025, and again received the diagnosis "INFECTION" and, once again, tablets, naturally without stomach protection. Since his condition deteriorated drastically over the weekend, we sought treatment at an animal hospital on September 22, 2025. After an ultrasound examination, we quickly received the devastating diagnosis: cancer in all organs. Only palliative treatment remained, which we then had administered at a different, more competent practice. During this time, he was even mostly better than he had been in the previous two years. Anyone who cares about their pet and is looking for a conscientious veterinarian who still prioritizes animal welfare and investigates the causes of ailments is absolutely in the wrong place here. Unfortunately, this realization came far too late for us, and we had to have our dog euthanized five weeks later. With an earlier diagnosis, our dog might have had a chance at treatment, and he would definitely have been spared a great deal of suffering.

A super calm veterinarian who takes his time, even with difficult patients. I'm very satisfied with the treatment and also with the staff who did their best to treat my difficult dog. A super nice practice with a friendly veterinarian and fantastic staff. We hope we won't see each other again anytime soon, but if we do, I'll only take my dog here. Thank you very much Monty and my owner

No distance too far, no time too late! Whether at 8 p.m. or 3 a.m., Andreas was there! Mr. Altenhoven has enjoyed my trust for over 10 years, both professionally and, above all, personally, and will continue to do so. Thank you for everything!

For those who don't want to read too much, here's the short version: Absolutely never go there. Mr. Altenhoven completely misdiagnosed a cruciate ligament tear, or rather, didn't even look at the dog. Simply ridiculous. So, now for those who want more information. I went there with my little dog, as we've been going there with our animals for years. It looked to me as if she had just torn a claw, and that's why she didn't really want to use her left hind leg. Of course, I mentioned this when we arrived. What I didn't expect was that Mr. Altenhoven dismissed this *assumption* of mine and threw out every other form of diagnosis. The dog wasn't examined or looked at in any further way. The claw was trimmed as short as possible, and when we mentioned the dog was still limping, the only response was, "Yeah, she still thinks something's wrong, but that'll go away soon" (that's the gist of it; I'm not a recording device). Not a second was wasted to take a closer look at the dog. We were simply dismissed and sent on our way. A nice 45€ for nail trimming is nice, too. But now comes the really bad part. The little one was then taken to another vet, as we were becoming increasingly dissatisfied with the practice. We had barely arrived at the other clinic, hadn't even shared any information about the dog, when the vet already had a suspicion. Based solely on the dog's gait. Nothing else. This suspicion was confirmed upon closer examination. Torn cruciate ligament. Surgery is probably necessary if we don't want the little one to have complications. Great. Great. Great. It's a complete mystery to me how an experienced veterinarian could miss such a serious injury. Just because I have a suspicion doesn't mean I'm right. A vet should always check things out to identify injuries like this and treat them early. I simply can't tolerate the general atmosphere at the practice anymore. You're rushed through at breakneck speed. Mr. Altenhoven barely addresses any questions or concerns. Everything is just a quick, rushed process, and then it's straight on to the next patient. Please, find someone else. I know it's not easy, and we've almost become accustomed to vets doing the bare minimum, giving the simplest diagnoses, and generally not seeming to care about our animals. But there are good ones out there. And hopefully, the others will finally realize their mistake when enough people leave bad reviews.
