Reviews
We took our dog to Dr. Sonntag's practice from puppyhood. She is very caring, competent, and always available to offer advice and support. Even in emergencies, when stress levels are particularly high for both dog and owner, she and the practice team remain calm. We also walked our final journey together after 15.5 years and felt in good hands with Dr. Wirth and the practice team. We highly recommend the practice.
I had a similar experience (to Ulrike V.) about six months ago. Dr. Sonntag sent me home with my seriously ill cat after a blood test and an X-ray. His lungs looked abnormal, his breathing was suspicious, and his inflammation markers were too low. Despite this, she saw no need for me to take my cat directly to the clinic. We were to wait for the results of the comprehensive blood work (we should know more on Friday). That was on a Tuesday, and on Thursday we had to go to the clinic because he was very ill that morning. He was disoriented, very unsteady on his feet, and not at all himself. After thorough examinations, they discovered that his entire abdominal cavity was filled with fluid (blood?). There was no hope left, and we had to have him euthanized. The next day, I called the clinic and canceled the appointment for the following week. I briefly explained what had happened. But, just like with Ulrike, the doctor didn't deem it necessary to call me back. I also have my cat's sister, and I won't be going back to that practice either. Response to the reply: You're right, and I apologize for forgetting to mention that you advised me to have his lungs scanned at a clinic. We spoke again on Tuesday evening, after which you advised me to wait for the results of the comprehensive blood test. They were supposed to be available on Friday. Unfortunately, that didn't happen. Since I'm not a medical professional and didn't know how serious my cat's condition was at the time, I didn't immediately go to the clinic on your advice. In any case, none of this helps my cat anymore... I wish you all the best as well.
After my vet passed away, a neighbor recommended Dr. Almut Sonntag's practice to us. First, the positives. The entire team there was friendly. But that was it. Friendliness alone doesn't help. My cat had a large lump in his lower abdomen. Dr. Sonntag's colleague examined our cat, pressed on the lump for minutes, suspected a tumor, and initially wanted to do an X-ray, but then decided to do an ultrasound instead. After this examination, we were called back to the examination room. Neither an X-ray nor an ultrasound was performed; instead, the lump was punctured. This hadn't been discussed. The only thing that could be clearly stated was that the lump was heavily perfused. An appointment for a blood test was scheduled for the following week. Even after that, we didn't receive a diagnosis, except for what we already knew and why we came to the practice: There's a lump there that doesn't belong there. A surgery appointment was scheduled for almost two weeks later. Unfortunately, that didn't happen. From one day to the next, the cat became so ill that I had to let him go. I didn't want to put him through the stress of the car ride any more, so I called the mobile vet. This vet also examined our cat and didn't understand why the puncture was necessary. The cat's entire abdominal skin had turned blue, which indicates that he (presumably) bled to death due to the puncture. Of course, I can't say whether immediate surgery would have saved my cat, but almost four weeks passed from the first appointment at the practice to the surgery date without any improvement. The whole thing could have been avoided with "immediate" surgery. It's now taken more than three months for me to even get over it. I got the impression that money has to be earned first, with whatever is possible, and then the real help begins. In my cat's case, however, the help didn't arrive. I canceled the surgery appointment by phone, but neither of the two veterinarians followed up by phone. I would have expected a bit more interest. I still have my cat's little sister. But I'll certainly never bring her to Dr. Sonntag's office.
