My horse Denzel was completely exhausted in April 2020. He had had an external cough for months, which we couldn't get under control in collaboration with the vet. Expectorants, antibiotics and other medications had no effect. The cough, purulent nasal discharge, poor fitness and mental and physical condition became progressively worse. I no longer knew my otherwise lively and active 12-year-old gelding. My vet didn't really know what to do and we decided to have an endoscopy and a blood gas analysis with a specialist vet at the clinic. The horse was completely covered in mucus and had an oxygen level of 75%, which quickly explained his fatigue, lack of fitness and poor health. The diagnosis at the end of April 2020 was: hay dust allergy, COPD with a low chance of recovery. The veterinary specialist's advice was first of all to rinse the lungs three times and also give an intravenous expectorant. to treat the extreme mucus. After three days of each rinse, which he found difficult to tolerate, the result was only slightly better, so two more rinses were recommended. After five days I brought Denzel back home to the stable after five flushes. Expectorants and moist hay were recommended, but his health didn't really improve. Classic medicine, medication and a lot of exercise didn't really help. My horse didn't really recover, being in a bad state mentally and physically. When it was recommended to continue treatment with Coritson, I started looking for alternatives again. On the Internet I met Dr. Reitz with her presentation about treatment with acupuncture and chiropractic for horses with COPD. In this lecture, the horse's medical history was comparable to Denzel's illness. After a short phone call, I met Denzel with Dr. Reitz presented in her practice. She treated him with acupuncture and chiropractic care. The blood count was analyzed. With this overall impression and her explanations, she introduced me to acupressure. We coordinated the feed and additional feed and agreed to stay in close communication. Denzel was getting visibly better. The mucus dissolved, literally flowed out of his nose, he recovered physically, was resilient again and the coughing became less frequent. Expectorants and other medications were completely discontinued. In addition, I used and administered my knowledge of Schlüssler salts. Denzel has not seen or needed any expectorants or similar medications, such as antibiotics, since May 2020. My horse gradually found its way back to its old form through daily acupressure. Ms. Dr. Reitz came to the stable twice more for follow-up treatment. She checked the blood values and we also adjusted the acupuncture points and the food. From her first treatment in May 2020 to the third and final treatment in July 2020, the horse has fully recovered and is in top shape. We enhanced the acupressure with the laser. On average, I treat Denzel with the laser on the appropriate acupuncture points every two days. The video from Dr. Reitz and her comments, which we repeatedly discussed over the phone, were helpful to me and the success is still visible today. No further treatment has been necessary to date. I am completely amazed at what acupuncture can do and has done. The attitude and approach of Dr. Reitz convinced me. I have become a better team with my horse and he is super healthy, resilient and enjoys life again. It's just fun and I'm very grateful, Dr. Reitz with her experience and expertise.
The Lung Mentoring Program was the best decision Nadira's horse life ever made. Since she developed asthma in 2019, it was almost impossible for us to live without stress, going from one asthma attack to the next. I had done everything that veterinarians, naturopaths, and other sufferers had recommended: optimizing her living conditions, expectorants, salt chamber therapy, inhalation therapy, soaking hay, steam inhalation, etc. All of that helped, but only for a while. The symptoms ALWAYS came back, and each time they got worse. Eventually, despite changing stables, keeping her in a dust-free environment, and using inhalation therapy, I had to keep giving her cortisone. I stopped traveling and didn't even exercise her on dusty days. You get desperate and end up feeling very insecure and afraid of every new day, every shedding, every hay bale. A few more months, and I would have definitely considered moving her to the Baltic Sea. Then I googled it and saw a video by Astrid where she talks about her approach. For the first time, I saw hope again. After the initial conversation, I realized the investment was significant. Since there were hardly any reviews or people who had participated in the program, I was skeptical. I initially dismissed the idea. Unfortunately, Nadira's condition worsened, and we ended up having to use large doses of cortisone for regular nebulization. However, a year-end bonus prompted me to make a decision: I would give it a try. If there was still a chance to help my horse, I wanted to seize it. And thank goodness I did. Today, I know how to help her with exercise, gut cleansing, acupuncture, and targeted inhalation. Not only is Nadira symptom-free, but I also have valuable knowledge and experience in helping her and other horses with coughs. What exactly happened in the program: 12 weeks of intensive support from a veterinarian and a group. Changes were made to the horse's diet and training. Treatment was provided daily. You learn a lot, but you need time or help every day. The results speak for themselves: For the first time since 2019, I observed a respiratory rate below 16 for Nadira. Furthermore, mucus finally came out of her nostrils. Her diagnosis had previously always been a dry, mucus-free cough. The mucus was simply trapped or stuck! After six weeks in the program, we were at a consistent respiratory rate of eight breaths per minute. Nadira hardly coughs anymore since the program ended, and we've been able to reintroduce freely accessible, dry hay without a net into her diet. She last had that in 2020! If she does cough, it's usually resolved after one or two days with exercise and acupuncture. Her condition is outstanding, and she looks better than ever. This is also reflected in her mood. I almost feel like I have my young, vibrant mare back, free of asthma. ... It's important to know that up until then, there were always ups and downs, and we had to force symptoms to appear in order to make healing possible. So, there were times when things got more intense during the program. But, for example, we didn't need the cortisone anymore. From the tenth week of the program onward, the symptoms completely disappeared! I'm absolutely amazed and overjoyed that I've found a way forward for Nadira that finally offers a glimmer of hope.
Aggressive Advertising I was interested in the information session. Beforehand, I was bombarded with messages full of links and glowing reviews on all channels, both via email and WhatsApp (sometimes every fifteen minutes). You have to register for this group to get all the information. After the seminar, the same thing continues. The only thing missing is information about prices and contract duration. I received no response to my multiple inquiries. It seems that email communication is completely unwelcome. They are clearly exploiting the hopes of desperate horse owners. Incidentally, this entire approach—the design of the emails, the aggressive advertising without concrete information—is identical to Sandra Löckener's. Because of these tactics, I have distanced myself from both programs. It's simply unscrupulous profiteering from the worries of horse owners.
Thank you so much for the wonderful treatment of my Icelandic horse Nad, who was severely ill with Lyme disease. She was very gently relaxed, first with acupuncture, and then the blockages were manually released. Today she's already moving beautifully forward and down in trot on the lunge line. Amazing, thanks!
I participated in the Lung Empowerment Intensive Program with my horse starting in October 2025. For me, it was the best decision ever. Before the program, my 9-year-old German Sport Horse had severe respiratory problems, no longer responded to medication, and had to use an inhaler several times a day. Any kind of exertion was out of the question; he reacted to any movement immediately with shortness of breath. We also had to deal with countless other issues (bloating, poor muscle development/general condition, prone to injury, etc.). After just a few weeks with Astrid's guidance, my horse began to recover. Now, just a few months after starting the program, we no longer need medication or the inhaler. Dusty hay is well tolerated, his resting respiratory rate is consistently at 10, and he is fully capable of working and performing at his best. Furthermore, he is steadily building muscle and simply looks great. Over the course of the program, we were not only able to resolve his respiratory problems, but all his other issues gradually disappeared as well. Astrid imparts so much incredible knowledge that I feel perfectly prepared for the future and have no fear of "tougher times." I can wholeheartedly recommend Astrid's program to everyone and give it my highest recommendation. Before deciding on the program, you have the opportunity to learn everything in a free (!!!) consultation. In this consultation, the costs for the program itself, as well as any additional costs that may arise, are communicated transparently and clearly, and all questions are answered in detail. I would choose this path again without hesitation.
