Great vet. He's great for both dogs and cats (I've had experience with both). He was recommended to me because he also does house calls. You do have to be a bit flexible, but as long as the animal is treated stress-free... always! And with him, you can see that word of mouth is the best advertising... :)

About two weeks ago, I was in Mr. Kees's emergency room on Saturday evening with our 4-year-old Sphynx cat, Spock. I don't normally write reviews, but in this case, I felt it was important—both to draw attention to the kind of person you deal with there and in the hope that this person might be more considerate of their profession in the future. History (which I also shared in the office): My cat was diagnosed with advanced HCM a year ago. We knew he wouldn't live much longer, but we did our best to make his life worth living. He saw his cardiologist regularly and was given heart medication three times a day (in short, it was all about the cat, but that was okay). The cat had an increased respiratory rate and was wheezing a bit, meaning fluid was accumulating in his lungs. I called the vet and asked if he could inject a specific medication directly into his vein (as it works faster). He said, "No, you can also inject it under the skin, that's no problem." I was a bit apprehensive, as something injected under the skin is never as effective as something injected directly into the vein, but oh well, I thought, okay, let's get there quickly. On the way, the cat suddenly started screaming, opened his mouth wide, and panted like crazy (a clear sign of acute respiratory distress). Once I arrived at the vet, I explained the situation. The cat was now tossing and turning from side to side due to shortness of breath and was, of course, very, very restless. The doctor just said, "Ah, he probably doesn't like driving," and I said, "No, he's not normally afraid of it. We even go out for walks in the car quite often." Then he added that it was probably some kind of "Polish breed" (yes, we were completely stumped by the breeder; we thought we had a €1,600 "breeding cat" who couldn't go to his destination at the time "due to the coronavirus" – probably the papers were fake or something – whatever – but why were we immediately stamped? And what does that even matter when it comes to treating the animal?) He tried to listen to his chest (which wasn't really necessary, since you could already hear his wheezing so intensely) and gave him the injection. He said we should see a cardiologist on Monday. I wasn't convinced and asked him if he thought this was at least a case for the clinic, since the cat's tongue was completely blue from shortness of breath. He said, okay, then drive straight from here to the Giessen animal clinic. I was still not entirely convinced, but of course also very worried about my cat, so I paid 170 euros for the entire "treatment" (to be fair, it was an emergency, but it still seemed a bit high to me) and entered everything into the GPS. 45 minutes. 45 more minutes of severe respiratory distress. What can I say? 20 minutes before Giessen, my cat suffocated miserably. I'm not writing this review to blame anyone. The cat wouldn't have lived much longer. BUT: why doesn't an experienced veterinarian think of puncturing a cat's lung to give him relief? Or why doesn't one just say, "Look at the animal, there's no point in doing this anymore, we'll put it down"? Didn't they just want to get their hands dirty and maybe make a quick buck? I don't know, but I do know that my little Spock didn't deserve such an end, even if he was perhaps just a cheap "Polish breed." Thank you for reading. I can't even begin to describe how difficult it was for me to write this review, and despite the circumstances, I hope I can convey a relatively neutral impression.

Martin Kees has been our vet since... I think the early 90s. I can't imagine a better vet. His initial suspicion was often correct, even when large veterinary clinics conducted lengthy and complex examinations. When an animal is suffering, he's there – even in the middle of the night, if necessary. It was always a comfort that our dogs could fall asleep at home with the family, without the stress of a trip to the clinic. A vet with a huge heart and a sharp mind!
