Today I took our cat, who got an abscess in a fight, to Dr. Kugel's emergency veterinary clinic. Even the initial phone call was absolutely fantastic—pleasant and helpful. We were told to head straight there. Upon arrival at the clinic, we received a very warm welcome from veterinary assistant Christoph Emondts. Both he and Dr. Kugel himself are incredibly empathetic, sensitive, and simply very kind to both people and animals. I am truly more than satisfied with the excellent treatment and can wholeheartedly recommend this clinic. Many thanks for everything from me and Snoopy 🐱

I'm having to restrain myself emotionally right now...but if I could, I'd give it -100. We were just at the practice with our Japanese budgies because we recently adopted them from a home where the owner was suffering from dementia. We then discovered that one of the birds had a broken leg; after positioning, the leg looked like it had fused together incorrectly. It's also difficult to tell whether the animal is in pain or not. The practice boasts that Dr. Kugel specializes in birds. So we arrived at the practice at 9:17 a.m. The door downstairs was already open...so we went in. We expected to have to wait longer without an appointment. Understandable, especially on a Monday morning. But then the bombshell came, and that's why, even though I never write reviews...from an animal-friendly perspective, I'm shocked. We arrive at the practice and a man approaches us. Yes, we were there earlier, yes, but the door was already open... he looked annoyed at the clock, groaned and said, what do you want? We explained the situation to him, pointed out the urgency and that we were sorry we came without an appointment, but it was an emergency. To which he just shook his head: yes, listen, have you been to us before? No, I replied, because on your website only "regular customers" can fill out the form. Yes, then unfortunately we can't accept you. You have to look at it this way. There used to be three of us doctors, now there are only 1.5 (I assume part-time), and these doctors have to take on all the clients that were previously looked after by three. There are fewer and fewer vets, and therefore we don't have time to take them in. I was in tears because I was standing there with two small animals and didn't understand this lecture, the lack of empathy. And then I was advised to go to practice xy, BUT please call them first so I don't catch the practices off guard. I thought our healthcare system was already struggling with the doctor shortage and so on. But something like this...during the time the man was giving us that lecture...we could have filled out a form long ago and waited. I WILL NEVER ENTER THIS practice AGAIN. They're not animal lovers, and I don't care how trivial it may seem to others, or how "they're just birds, and as long as they're still eating and drinking, it's not an emergency." They're living beings like us, and if a practice wants to help, they find a way with the owners. I would have had the time and patience. Thanks for NOTHING.

Over 30 years ago, my first German Shepherd visited the Kugel veterinary practice. At that time, Dr. Michael Kugel's father was still practicing there. Even then, and ever since, every one of my animals has been in the best hands at this practice, and later with Dr. Michael Kugel himself. I now live about 40 kilometers from Dr. Kugel's practice, but that doesn't stop me from continuing to take my pet there. We are completely satisfied. Whether it's scheduling appointments, prices, treatments, diagnosing illnesses and treating them, or even in emergencies, we've always had a good veterinarian available for our beloved four-legged friends. Thank you!

Their website prominently advertises their specialization in birds, but they are unwilling to treat my elderly African Grey parrot with a heart condition. Our veterinarian has unfortunately left our practice, and there are hardly any other vets in the area who treat parrots. This is very disappointing, as we only need an appointment every six months to have his heart checked and his medication adjusted. I can understand, in principle, that they can't accept new patients when it comes to animals (dogs and cats) that can theoretically be treated anywhere. However, expecting a parrot to travel over an hour each way for a heart examination strikes me as highly questionable and heartless.
