According to the emergency service finder of the Westphalia-Lippe Veterinary Chamber, this practice should have been on call. Unfortunately, none of our calls went through, even from different phones… Thanks for nothing.
I'm shocked. I'd been taking my little rescue dog, Carlos, to Dr. Kökelsum for almost three years. Since he's prone to tartar buildup, he needed a dental cleaning again. The last one was in 2023 at a different vet. The quoted cost of "up to €700" seemed very high, but I thought he was in good hands there. When I went to pick him up, they wanted almost €1000. I didn't even get to see my dog or see a bill. When I asked why the price was so high, I encountered the owner, Dr. Hartmann: "Do you brush your dog's teeth? From now on, you will!!! People are surprised and don't want to pay €1000 for dental work?" He gave me a large syringe with bloody teeth and said they had extracted 16 teeth. At home, I discovered there were many more! There was never any information about this procedure or any prior phone consultation. When I went to pay, he publicly humiliated me in front of all the staff and other pet owners in the waiting room, repeatedly saying loudly, "If anyone else calls and asks, 'Teeth cost €1000 here.'" What I found particularly upsetting was the disrespectful and condescending way the head veterinarian treated me, and I experienced neither compassion nor empathy for my dog. I'm done with this practice, which I especially regret after my positive experiences with Dr. Kökelsum, Dr. Hartmann, and the staff.
I took my 10-year-old Newfoundland to this veterinary practice and am deeply shocked by how my dog was treated. My dog is not used to being examined on a table. When I pointed this out, the response was simply "whatever," and she was forced onto the table. For an already stressed 50-kilo giant breed in her advanced senior years, this is an enormous physical and mental strain. To avoid the vet having to move during the ear examination, my dog was required to turn around on the narrow, smooth table. To top it all off, I was repeatedly forbidden from touching or comforting my dog. Finally, I was even forbidden from helping her off the table. There is a complete lack of empathy and a fundamental understanding of the anatomy and needs of senior large breeds. This was our first and definitely last visit. Not recommended for owners of large breeds.
Dr. Hartmann saved our Abby's eye. The practice is top-notch, the doctors are top-notch, the staff is top-notch, the location is beautiful, and the coffee machine is fantastic (Irish cappuccino ❤️). You won't find a better practice with so many specialists. Best of luck!
Thank you so much for the competent and prompt help on Saturday evening, as well as the subsequent care and treatment. Everything went perfectly and we were very satisfied.
