Reviews
I took my 13-year-old cat to the vet for a routine checkup. He wanted a complete blood count with all his blood values and a dental check. A female assistant took a blood sample and shaved his arm – my cat then licked the area raw. Despite a promise of a prompt callback, I only received the blood results the next day after I asked for them. I was only told that there was a slight potassium deficiency and elevated liver enzymes, which "didn't play a role." My second vet, whom I went to because of the inflammation on my leg caused by licking, made it clear that the elevated liver enzymes absolutely needed to be checked out and that a potassium deficiency should, of course, be treated – both of which were ignored here. Furthermore, the complete blood count didn't include thyroid levels, even though I had specifically requested a comprehensive result. At the practice here at Kölle Zoo, I was recommended urgent dental surgery – including cleaning, x-rays, etc. The second vet, however, didn't see any urgent need for treatment, merely removed some tartar with small forceps, and said a dental cleaning was far too early. I also find the prices excessive (€233 for a blood work + checkup). Overall, the practice strikes me as a "money-making" scheme: unnecessary recommendations, missing results, poor communication, and high costs. I should mention, however, that last year I had to have my old cat put down there for cancer. The support and treatment during this difficult situation were very respectful and humane – however, the cost here was a whopping €270 just for the euthanasia. I took the cat home and had it cremated. The Veterinary Fee Schedule (GOT) stipulates the following net amounts for euthanasia of a cat by injection: • Single-dose rate: €30.78 • Double-dose rate: €61.56 • Triple-dose rate: €92.34
