Reviews
I've been taking my dogs to this clinic for over 10 years now. I've only had positive experiences so far. When I had to have my Tibetan Mastiff put down five years ago, we were given all the time in the world to say goodbye. I'm still grateful to Dr. Himstedt for that. The veterinarian, Ms. Prestel, is also very competent. However, the friendliness at reception varies quite a bit. It really depends on which of the staff members you encounter.
You might not believe it, but yesterday our male dog was bitten by a viper, and we urgently needed help. The clinic in Opfenbach even answered the phone outside of normal call hours, and they only asked a few questions, which my wife answered while I was driving. When I arrived, I parked the car right in front of the door, leaving the trunk and everything open so I could help my dog as quickly as possible, and everything went smoothly. He was seen right away, and they knew what to do right away. Very competent and trustworthy. My boy stayed in the hospital for four hours, received an IV, antibiotics, and cortisol. The bill was absolutely reasonable, with no unnecessary additional costs. The hospital stay didn't cost any extra money; everything went smoothly. My boy apparently caused some problems while I was away (stayed in the hospital for four hours for observation) (sorry again for that) and confronted the staff. He's a 60 kg male Cane Corso, and they managed that too. Thank you for everything, we'll be happy to come back. Best regards
0/10 – Please read if the welfare of your animals is important to you! I'm not writing this review to vent, but to warn other pet owners. If you've found this review, try to figure out whether you can in good conscience have your pet treated here. In short: NO. - Interest in animal welfare: 1/10 Unless the treatments are lucrative, there seems to be little interest. Our cat, just 2.5 years old, had severe infections in her mouth, including purulent wounds. These weren't rinsed or disinfected, but only briefly examined. No serious consideration of the case. When respiratory distress later developed, the response was simply, "Yes, she just inhaled bacteria from her mouth into her esophagus or lungs." – but no further investigation was carried out. - Quality of treatment: 1/10 The young cat also had a torn paw. At first, they treated the swelling with medication for a while, and later, at least they stitched it up – but even here, without the feeling that the overall situation was truly under control. In the mouth: only topical antibiotics + fever reducer, including the wrong antibiotic. It wasn't until a week (!) later that someone even thought of taking a blood sample – the result: FIV positive. An antibiogram (to specifically select the right antibiotic)? No luck. X-ray? No luck. And when we asked for a swab because of the massive inflammation in the mouth, the only response we got was: "Yes, we could take a swab, but where do I start?" – even though the source of infection was more than obvious. The antibiotic was changed blindly, and they quickly said, "There's nothing more we can do." In comparison: The second opinion took 2.5 hours, analyzed blood, took an X-ray, made a precise diagnosis, and adjusted the treatment. - Competence of the veterinarians: 1/10 Yellow discoloration in the mouth was explained as fatty liver disease without a blood test, and the recommendation for euthanasia was immediately derived from this. The second opinion showed that it wasn't fatty liver disease at all, but rather the result of massive anemia (internal bleeding in the lungs). The liver was fine. With this misdiagnosis, our 2.5-year-old cat would have been prematurely euthanized. It seems as if only routine medical care is possible here. - Stress for the animal: 2/10 An in-person appointment every two days instead of taking tablets at home → unnecessary trips, unnecessary stress for a weakened cat. Long waiting times → pure stress every time. - Compassion: 0/10 An example: When our cat was spayed, my wife sadly said it was a shame such a beautiful cat wouldn't reproduce. The vet simply responded with, "Well, there are enough cats." Friendliness: 3/10 Sober tone, no interest, no empathy. I was labeled stubborn because I didn't immediately comply with the euthanasia recommendation. Price/Performance: 1/10 Many unnecessary, short appointments → good for the health insurance, bad for the animal. One of our epileptic cat once received a small pack of tablets for more money than he would later receive a large pack of the same medication. This smacks of rip-off. Facilities: 4/10 Waiting area filled with flies and a stable smell. Treatment rooms clean. Our cat was only 2.5 years old. Instead of admitting that the case was beyond their capabilities, we were kept waiting for three weeks with symptomatic treatments. Three valuable weeks in which, with a competent practice, we very likely could have saved our cat's life. Conclusion: Not only was the treatment incorrect, but we were also wasted valuable time. If they had honestly said, "Please find another practice," our 2.5-year-old cat would have had a real chance of living today. Instead: incorrect diagnoses, blind trial and error, and hasty recommendations for euthanasia. If you truly care about your animals, please find another practice.
An exceptionally good veterinary clinic. You feel like you're in good hands. Our dog received excellent care and is doing well again. Top-notch!
