Reviews
The veterinarian, Dr. Lücken, and her assistant were very considerate and careful. The diagnosis was explained thoroughly and clearly. Our dog felt noticeably comfortable, as did we. Very satisfied.
Our dog, Scotti (5 months old), had eye surgery. From our first meeting to the completion of the surgery, we have only good things to say. Ms. von Lücken is an exceptionally good and very caring veterinarian. We can absolutely recommend her and would go back to her anytime. A big thank you also to the very kind and friendly assistants. All in all, you are in very good hands at this veterinary practice.
In 2023, we consulted Dr. Ariane von Lücken on a recommendation because our senior dog, Jack, had elevated intraocular pressure in his left eye. The initial examination was thorough, and we were well-informed about the initial treatment approach. Jack received medication to lower his intraocular pressure, and we came in regularly for checkups, during which the medication was adjusted. However, in the end, we were strongly advised to have the eye surgically removed. Since Jack was already 14 years old at that point and also suffered from Cushing's disease, we openly expressed our concerns. Unfortunately, these were not really addressed. Instead, we were repeatedly shown "how cute" dogs with only one eye look. This was completely irrelevant to us, as Jack's health was the sole priority. Even the fact that Jack had barely survived a significantly less risky surgery six months earlier was dismissed. A further thorough examination did not take place. On a positive note, she did consult with our regular veterinarian at our request. We ultimately decided against surgery, even though we were strongly warned about the possibility of the situation worsening, including the possibility of the eye rupturing and Jack suffering excruciating pain. However, a second opinion confirmed that conservative treatment was justifiable in our specific case. Jack received the eye drops until his death in October 2025, without complications, without a ruptured eye, and with stable intraocular pressure. I don't want to question Dr. von Lücken's professional expertise. However, I would have liked our concerns to be taken seriously, alternatives to be discussed together, and an objective discussion to be possible without being confronted with pictures of "cute one-eyed dogs" to convince us that surgery was necessary.
I took my cat to Dr. Lücken because her eye had been constantly watering since we moved in. They immediately recommended surgery to remove a portion of her eyelid, as it was supposedly turned inward and the eyelashes were irritating her eye. During this surgery, they wanted to "take a look at her airways as well." Fortunately, I sought a second and third opinion – and both veterinarians confirmed that this operation would have been completely unnecessary. Apparently, they would have recommended a second operation after the first procedure, as the actual problem was probably in the nasolacrimal duct. I'm truly shocked at how quickly they recommend expensive and unnecessary procedures. Unfortunately, the animal's well-being doesn't seem to be a priority.
We have rarely experienced such a caring veterinary practice; five stars aren't nearly enough. Our cat was diagnosed with an iris melanoma. We already had a surgery appointment scheduled with another ophthalmologist and simply wanted a second opinion to confirm that Ms. Ariane von Lücken also believed it was an iris melanoma. Ms. von Lücken impressed us so much with her caring manner and expertise that we quickly realized she was the only ophthalmologist authorized to operate on our cat. We received excellent information, all our concerns were addressed, and, importantly for us, the surgery would be performed under inhalation anesthesia. On the day of the surgery, we were able to wait in a quiet, separate room. We were warmly cared for and allowed to be present during the induction of the anesthesia. After the surgery, we were also able to be present during the recovery phase. The monitoring of our cat by the ophthalmologist and veterinary assistant was outstanding. We were also able to be present during the recovery phase. Furthermore, we received excellent information about how the surgery was performed. Even after the surgery, we continued to receive wonderful care. Ms. Ariane von Lücken called us to check on our cat, and we also communicated via email. There was also an emergency number we could call at any time. A prompt referral was also sent back to our regular veterinarian and to us. All in all, this practice is second to none in terms of friendliness and care – this applies to Ms. Ariane von Lücken and the lovely veterinary assistants! We wouldn't consider any other practice for our cat's eyes. Since we can't thank them enough, we'd like to say it again: thank you so much for the excellent care!
