The treatment room is a bit intimidating. However, my cat's spay/neuter operation went smoothly, and the stitches even came out easily after a reasonable amount of time. If you don't care too much for bells and whistles, you can definitely give the doctor a chance. However, I think he would do himself a huge favor by decorating his practice in a more trustworthy manner.
