Of the two veterinarians working there, unfortunately only the younger one handles the animals appropriately, sensitively, and patiently. The staff is always friendly, but sometimes they either don't acknowledge or don't take seriously inquiries made via social media. The waiting times are perfectly reasonable. Unfortunately, you often have to be careful when paying the bill, as they tend to offer more than what was prescribed.
We've been there with our dog for vaccinations so far, and it's been accepted without discussion that only the three-year rabies vaccination is given. Our male dog had a skin lesion removed from his hind leg. I have to say that the option of having it tested first to see if it was benign wasn't even mentioned. We were immediately recommended surgery. Since we had a dental cleaning coming up anyway, we had it done together. Unfortunately, both stitches came undone on their own (he didn't touch them once, and the wound looked fine), and we ended up at the Hirschberg Animal Clinic with our dog on Sunday evening because the wound had reopened. They put in staples that hold it in place. Our insurance covers the surgery, but otherwise, of course, we probably would have been very upset. So, it's easier to keep in mind that it was simply an unfortunate coincidence. Writing something by email and then receiving a response is a bit strange. Apparently, there's only one assistant who can do it?! And she's either there or not. The staff is always friendly. We have met two different veterinarians and none of them were unfriendly or seemed incompetent to us.
My cat had eaten a large piece of fabric with long threads. I also brought the chewed-through blanket to the vet and asked them to induce vomiting. Long threads and strings in particular can cause serious intestinal complications. Ms. Wiegand administered an "emetic" without informing me that an anesthetic is used for this in cats. The dosage was apparently too high. Instead of vomiting, my cat was anesthetized after about 10 minutes (which in cats looks like the eyes are open – as if dead). I called the veterinary assistant, Ms. Wiegand came over and said she would take the cat to the X-ray room and bring him back right away. She probably didn't want to administer the antidote/wake-up drug in my presence. The cat wasn't brought right away, and I had to ask twice what was wrong with him. I was very worried! Instead, I got assurances that yes, he was fine, I'd have him in a minute. When the veterinary assistant finally brought him in after about 20 long minutes, he seemed very weak, but still hadn't broken. I asked Ms. Wiegand what to do. Her response: "Try whatever you want, stick your finger down his throat!" This sentence was so unbelievable that it wasn't until I got home that I truly understood the rudeness and incompetence I had experienced at this practice. I wrote another email and demanded a refund. I didn't receive a response. Conclusion: Never again!
A very kind, empathetic, and competent doctor with a very nice team. We feel very well cared for there and wish them all the best for the future.
I only went twice and never again. My cat was treated incorrectly, the illness worsened, no ointments or medication were prescribed, but I received a hefty bill. My current vet recognized and treated the problem immediately, and after two days it was almost gone. The other vet seemed rather incompetent. She didn't really know what to do herself.
