Reviews
We were able to drop by on short notice, although there was a wait, which I didn't find very long. Everyone was friendly and they helped the dog.
An absolutely fantastic veterinarian! Ms. Heike van der Kaap is not only extremely competent, but also incredibly friendly and empathetic – just like her entire team. You immediately feel well cared for, and my animals have always felt comfortable there. The practice rooms are very spacious, which is especially great for nervous animals – you can wait with plenty of distance from other patients. Highly recommended – it couldn't be better!
I used to take my two cats there for quite some time. But lately, I'm simply no longer satisfied. It's nice that they still offer short-notice appointments and that Ms. Wenz is a very empathetic veterinarian—hence the one star—but that's where the positives end. For Ms. Van der Kaap, animal welfare hasn't been a priority for a long time; profit is. I took my cat to the practice one evening because of a protruding canine tooth. Weighing him, pain medication, and a six-minute examination cost almost €45. She wanted to anesthetize my 15-year-old cat, take a blood sample, remove tartar, and extract the tooth. When I asked how much that would cost, she said it was hard to say, but the blood draw and analysis in-house would be €200, and the anesthesia €400. And that didn't even include the other procedures. I was told to bring my cat back the next morning. At home, I thought about it and decided to get a second opinion. There, I paid €250 for a dental cleaning, tooth extraction, blood test, and local anesthesia. Years ago, I took my other cat there because he somehow had a blade of grass stuck in his throat and kept trying to vomit it up. After X-rays, an overnight stay at the clinic, and various blood tests, Ms. Van der Kaap declared my cat to be in top shape and perfectly healthy. The final cost, including lab work and everything else, came to €1,000. The clinic's fees alone amounted to €840. With costs like that, who would want to get a pet? I understand that everything has become more expensive, but animal welfare hasn't been the top priority at Ms. Van der Kaap's clinic for a long time. I always liked going there because of Ms. Wenz, who understood both people and animals. When my cat had an open wound on his cheek, she didn't give me an expensive cream but suggested I try zinc ointment – which worked very well. That was my last visit to that practice. I've finally found a veterinarian who truly prioritizes animal welfare!
I've been a client of this practice with my cat since I brought her home as a kitten. My deceased cat was also brought to this practice. I trust both doctors. Over time, I've found myself going to Ms. Wenz's office more often, whom I not only trust 100%, but I'm also impressed by her vast knowledge. She's incredibly inquisitive and visibly thoughtful, like a walking encyclopedia of animals. She's always looking for solutions for everyone. But her interactions with both animals and owners are also simply commendable. She's humane, and you can see her love for animals. Ms. Wenz even took extraordinary time for me when I was emotionally struggling with an emergency situation that she wasn't even handling. I really appreciate that, as it took up her personal time. That's not something to be taken for granted. Ms. van der Kaap's vast knowledge is also evident, and my mother and I will never forget her saving our dachshund's life. Unfortunately, a previous veterinary clinic couldn't find the correct diagnosis, and only thanks to Ms. van der Kaap's quick response were we able to help him. She immediately referred him to a veterinary clinic in Langenfeld, where he was monitored overnight and the clinic's treatment was absolutely commendable. In conclusion, I highly recommend both of them and will definitely continue to visit this practice.
I completely agree with Rabea Dräger's comment. We also had three cats, and two other family members had four more animals at Dr. van der Kaap's practice. We all experienced identical situations at that practice over the past two years. We've all found new vets now.
