In my personal opinion, Ruth Twehues' veterinary practice is the best in the area. The team is very friendly, the care they provide, even in difficult situations, is unparalleled, and everything is explained clearly and sensibly. They also work with a billing service for larger bills, allowing you to pay in installments (the first four installments are interest-free). We took our cat Sammy to the veterinary practice on March 15, 2026, during the emergency hours (Sunday). The initial phone call was very friendly, and we were able to reach someone immediately. In our case, the cat was experiencing acute respiratory distress with labored breathing. He was received and examined with great care, first generally, and then with an ultrasound, which unfortunately revealed a large amount of fluid in his lungs. Due to the cat's age and the potential outcomes of a heart condition, we ultimately decided to let Sammy go. ... Here, too, it became clear how compassionate they are. First, they administered a light anesthetic, and our Sammy was allowed to look out the window and be petted while he became drowsy. Afterward, they gave him the injection to euthanize him. He passed away peacefully and didn't have to suffer any longer. Throughout the entire process, despite another animal having an upcoming surgery, we were given ample time to consider our options and say our goodbyes. I would highly recommend this practice, and we will definitely come back here with our next pet.

A very competent veterinary team, highly recommended. They did everything they could to help my dog after I switched from another vet to them. Unfortunately, it was unsuccessful because the damage was too extensive. I can only recommend them to every animal lover. I will definitely stay with my second dog there. They take their time. Thank you for visiting them.

Ms. Twehues was a lifesaver! We contacted six veterinarians in the Aurich district over two days, urgently requesting their help. None were willing to put our pet pig out of its misery. "We don't treat pigs... We don't have a captive bolt pistol (!!!)..." were some of the responses. Finally, I called Ms. Twehues in Esens, which is quite a distance away. She promptly drove from Esens to Großefehn and, in a competent, calm, and compassionate manner, put the animal out of its misery. A fantastic veterinarian! Thank you so much!
