We took our cat to the vet on May 2nd because she had been showing a loss of appetite for about three days. However, the clinic was closed, so we had to return home. Then, on May 5th, we went again. They took a blood sample. During the examination, they mentioned she had decayed teeth and proceeded to extract two of them. The vet examined her manually and drew blood. They told us to call after 3 PM the next day for the test results. Despite calling several times the next day, we couldn’t reach anyone. So we went back with our cat, because by that time it was already the 7th day, and she was barely eating anything and was vomiting what little she could eat. They took us into a room and looked at the blood results. They did not re-examine our cat, nor did they even take her out of her carrier. Based on the bloodwork, they told us she had pancreatitis. They gave us antibiotics to be used for 6 days, anti-nausea medication for 3 days, and a painkiller. We were the ones to ask when the next blood test should be done. The vet didn’t mention anything about it and casually said it could be done a week after finishing the medication, as if it wasn’t important. Despite using the medications, there was absolutely no improvement in our cat’s condition. She began vomiting again after the anti-nausea medication ran out. When we shared the situation with our vet in Turkey, they told us that she should have immediately received IV fluids and daily blood tests. According to the results, she had liver issues, early-stage jaundice, and anemia. They also said it was completely wrong to extract teeth from such a critically ill animal without anesthesia. Our Turkish vet was shocked when we told them the teeth were pulled without anesthesia. Since our cat showed no signs of recovery, we did not want to take her back to the vet who had barely cared for her in the first place. After asking almost all our friends, we finally found a new vet. This new vet looked at even the blood tests from a week ago and immediately said that she needed to be hospitalized. She was admitted on Tuesday, May 13th, but due to the earlier misdiagnosis and delayed treatment, we lost her on May 16th. If you are unable to care for animals as your profession requires, then it would be better for you not to practice it at all. The living beings you feel no responsibility for are the same ones we share our years with. We don’t just raise them—we give birth to them in our hearts. And we don’t see them as anything less than our children. There is no way to describe the pain you caused us. According to your suggestion, we should now be bringing our dead cat in for another blood test this week. My only advice to you is: do your job properly. Your job is not to run a business for profit—your job is about lives. And I’m sorry to say, you have completely failed in that regard.
