Our 11-year-old Eurasier has been living with epilepsy since 2016. Since the summer of 2019, we have been under the care of Dr. Berk – and we can say with complete conviction: without him, our dog probably wouldn't be here today. Dr. Berk combines exceptional professional expertise with a profound humanity that is invaluable in stressful situations. He carefully and patiently adjusted our dog's medication, provides well-considered feeding recommendations, and coordinates closely and collaboratively with our regular veterinarian. This collaboration gives us security and confidence. What truly sets him apart, however, is his personal dedication. In crisis situations, we experience him as incredibly committed, empathetic, and caring. You can feel how much his patients mean to him. We contacted the practice for an initial and follow-up consultation by phone due to our dog's epilepsy. While the billing was formally based on the German Veterinary Fee Schedule (GOT), it was predominantly at the higher or even maximum rates. Several additional charges were added for preparation and follow-up work, resulting in a very high total amount. The total cost was noticeably higher than the guideline price range provided on the website. We would have expressly appreciated a transparent explanation of the potential maximum costs beforehand. When we inquired about the cost structure, we received what we considered a very confrontational and patronizing response, including legal advice. We did not perceive any attempt at de-escalation. In our view, the communication focused heavily on legal information and payment terms, whereas we would have appreciated more understanding and empathy given our difficult situation.
