Reviews
The doctor and her assistant are doing a really good job. My little one needed eye surgery, and the team took excellent care of her. No waiting times... but you do need to make an appointment. I'm looking forward to the team providing further care for my little one.
This practice was always good for me back then, until it came to putting my dog down. It's been a month, and the more I think about it, the more unprofessional and awful the practice seems. We had my dog put down on October 10th. I imagined a pleasant, calm atmosphere, just like most veterinary practices. But no, 1. it was in the middle of a busy time. 2. my dog received the anesthetic injection, and then we were sent to the waiting room, WITH MY DOG. WE HAD TO WAIT IN THE WAITING ROOM UNTIL MY DOG FELL ASLEEP. It's had such a strong impact on my psyche ever since, and I couldn't even properly grieve because the practice was full. Why do people do something like that? I mean, putting an animal down is already enough of a psychological burden for an owner, so why such disrespect for the animal? Why, really? Since then, I've constantly felt guilty, saying I should do better and find another practice. That's incredibly disrespectful! I don't even feel anger about such an experience; just pure sadness, fear, and disappointment. Never let him be put to sleep here; save yourself the psychological stress and extra grief :(
We were treated there with our two cats for almost 10 years. Since both have now crossed the rainbow bridge, we decided to adopt two new female cats from the Velbert animal shelter. We're now seeing Ms. Kaucke again, as she is a very empathetic, competent, and honest veterinarian. We also have nothing but good things to say about the team; they are very friendly and compassionate. We can and have recommended the practice with a clear conscience.
Unfortunately, I felt very dismissively treated at this practice, even though I initially went there with a good feeling. The phone calls beforehand seemed friendly. Later, the assistant even said to me, "You're the only one who finds me unfriendly; everyone else likes me." There was no consultation before my cats were neutered. Neither the procedure was explained to me, nor was it mentioned that several follow-up appointments or antibiotic treatment were planned. Only after the operation did I learn that I would have a total of three appointments. Since I am currently in the postpartum period and have a newborn, a friend brought my cats to the practice in the morning. I had to go to the pediatrician's office at the same time. I had tried calling several times beforehand to clarify some organizational questions. The day before, I had also asked to reschedule the appointment because the organizational effort involved with a newborn is considerable. However, I was told that this was not possible, as only my cats were scheduled for that surgery day, and the practice wouldn't make any money otherwise. Several irritating situations arose during the pick-up. Over the phone, I was repeatedly given a fixed pick-up time of 3 p.m., but later the conversation suddenly shifted to a time window of 1–3 p.m. At the doctor's office, I was initially told to come back "next Thursday," but shortly afterward, it was suddenly "this Thursday." When I asked which Thursday they meant, I was told, "Both, I told you." Another customer was even included in the conversation. Even organizational questions were answered with the statement that rescheduling an appointment was "my problem." At the same time, I was expected to leave my newborn in the car to pick up the bill. Naturally, I refused. I was also told I "seemed stressed because of my baby." In reality, my baby wasn't the problem, but rather the tone of the conversation. I also found the repeated labeling of my cat as an "inbred cat" without any factual explanation to be unnecessarily judgmental, especially since she came from an animal shelter. When I paid the bill of over €400, a small portion of which was in change, the employee demonstratively shook her head while counting. I had also asked if I could briefly meet the veterinarian. This was refused, with the explanation that I would see her again when the scheduled antibiotics were administered. When I mentioned that I was unfamiliar with prophylactic antibiotics after an uncomplicated spaying, I was told, in essence, that if I wasn't familiar with this, I had obviously only ever been to bad veterinarians. However, since my cat's surgical incision has healed without any issues and there is no sign of infection, I didn't go for the scheduled antibiotics and am now having the stitches removed by a different veterinarian. I myself work in animal rescue and have been involved in many spaying procedures – I have never before experienced prophylactic antibiotics requiring an additional appointment. The stitches themselves also surprised me: relatively large stitches and very thick sutures, which I haven't seen in other spaying procedures. I am aware that this practice has many positive reviews. However, my experience shows that communication and tone can be perceived very differently.
