We took our crested dog to surgery on January 31, 2025, for a luxating patellar lesion. They performed a professional operation, and afterward, we were able to take him home. Unfortunately, there were communication problems when picking him up, as the wrong name was called out. That's not a big deal and can happen to anyone. Upon inquiry, the misunderstanding was cleared up. When our dog developed neurological symptoms a month later, we were able to come in IMMEDIATELY. Despite a somewhat longer commute, we were seen immediately and advised to have a CT scan, which the clinic unfortunately didn't have. However, we were immediately sent to the emergency veterinary clinic, and Dr. Winkler personally called and announced our arrival to avoid a long wait. He suspected something neurological, which turned out to be the case. Due to our crested dog's poor bone healing, we were in regular contact with Dr. Winkler and regularly had X-rays of his operated knee taken by our veterinarian. These were sent to him, and he always responded quickly. Initially, we were advised to operate on the other knee as well, but due to a herniated disc in the cervical spine, we felt further major surgery would be too risky and had more than one detailed discussion with Dr. Winkler. He treated us with empathy and understood our concerns. As long as our dog was not experiencing any discomfort, it would be okay not to have the surgery on his left knee. Our concerns regarding the appointment for pin removal (about half a year later) were also met with empathy. Noya had a traumatic experience at another veterinary clinic this year and was struggling with severe depression, which we were fortunately able to overcome. Because of this, we asked if we could stay with him until he fell asleep and if he could come back to us as soon as possible after the operation, so that it would be as stress-free as possible for him. Here, too, our concerns were allayed and we were assured that this was not usually done as standard, but that they would make an exception for us. Everything was documented, including that due to the herniated disc, he needed to be positioned differently, that he would receive a different sedation, and that, at our request, the dog would not be kept in a crate, etc. Both Dr. Winkler and the trainee we spoke with on the phone were friendly and understood our wishes and concerns. On the day of the pin removal, Dr. Winkler came back to us and explained a few things again. We were asked to take Noya to the back, where he was listened to again and his knee was palpated. Shortly afterward, the flexule was inserted in our presence, and he was given a sedative. Afterward, we were able to wait in the waiting area. He was intubated, x-rayed, and immediately taken to the operating room. After the operation, he was brought to us (still intubated) so that he could wake up in our presence. While he was still asleep, a veterinary technician was with us to monitor him and extubated him when he woke up. He was then allowed to wake up properly in peace. That was more than we expected. Dr. Winkler also came between surgeries to check on the little patient and assured us that Noya was being moved as little as possible to protect his cervical spine. As the icing on the cake, they shaved his face, for which we were very grateful! We've been through a lot with Noya this year and are happy that it worked out so well. We felt taken seriously at all times and that we were in good hands. The staff was always kind, friendly, and accommodating during our surgeries. I highly recommend the Richter and Winkler group practice!
My dog got sick, and of all days, it had to be a Sunday. Thank goodness there's an on-call service for vets, too. And this vet was on call that Sunday. I called and went straight there. He was very, very nice and friendly, and my dog received immediate care. I can recommend him 100%.
